1. 1. Do I need to speak Hungarian in order to study at University of Debrecen?

All of the courses for both the medical and dental programs are taught completely in English. However, as part of the curriculum students are required to take Hungarian language courses to best integrate into the community.


2. Is University of Debrecen Medical University recognized in my country?

The university is accredited and recognized throughout the world, including in the United States, Canada, India, Iran, and... All of the universities are listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED), which means that graduates are able to sit for the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE)

3. Where is Debrecen, Hungary?

Debrecen is Hungary's second most populated city and is located two hours east of the capital Prague. The population is about 450,000 of which many are students.


4. How much time is required to earn a degree?

Medical Program : 6 Years

Dental Program: 5 years


5. What is the application procedure?

Prospective students are required to fill out the application found on our website. Upon completion and submission, you will be contacted within a few business days if you are a viable candidate for the applied program. If approved, you will be required to sit for an entrance examination comprised of: General Biology, Chemistry, and Physics components. The minimum passing score to enter the program is 50%.

6. What are the cost of attendance and living?


Six Year Medicine Program :$15,000 USD

Five Year Dentistry Program: $15,000 USD

Seat Allocation Fee: $5,000 USD

Application: $150 USD



Living Expenses

Monthly rent lies in the range of $2,000 for University dorms and up to $4,600 for private housing

Meal Plans $150 per month

Recreation $150 per month approximately


7. Are there opportunities for research?

There are a myriad of research opportunities. It is common practice for many clinical trials to be held in Europe


8. Will I be able to get a mobile phone and internet?

Students all over campus have telephones in their apartment, and nearly all communicate with mobile phones. Any tri-band GSM phone will work

There are several computer labs on campus with free access to the Internet everyday.

Students can also request high-speed internet in their apartment for a cost of about $30 per month


9. How are the living conditions?

There are far superior living and hygienic conditions in Europe than in many developing nations such as those in the Caribbean, the Middle East, or Far East. This is truly a unique learning experience on an international level in world class settings. There are common fast food restaurants and multicultural foods available within the vicinity of the campus.
